Mixing and Mastering Prices

Mixing and mastering prices are a crucial factor when choosing the right studio, especially for artists working with a limited budget.

At Peak-Studios, you can choose between analog and digital processing. The digital option does not use external outboard gear and is therefore more cost-effective, while the studio, room, and engineer remain the same.

Our prices for mixing, mastering, lessons, and services are transparently calculated and can be flexibly adapted. We offer attractive package discounts for larger projects.

Sample calculation for determining online mixing prices

To give you a clearer understanding of how prices at recording studios – especially for our online mixing services and mastering studio – are calculated, we’ll explain the process using a practical example. Not every task required to complete a project is listed here, but the times shown represent the total workload for each individual step carried out by the studio engineer.

Scope Duration Price
Email communication, track assessment, and invoicing before the project starts.
Approx. 20 min
Approx. €20
Project setup, track editing, mix creation, and implementation of client feedback.
Approx. 120 min
Approx. €180
Implementation of revision requests and, if required, mastering.
Approx. 35 min
Approx. €89
Final upload and project archiving.
Approx. 5 min
Approx. €10

Of course, not every detail required to complete a project is listed here. However, the times shown are included in the total working time of the studio engineer.

What does a mixing or mastering engineer actually deliver for an “expensive” price?

This brings us to an approximate total of €300 allocated to the mix. But what actually remains for the engineer?

We’ve asked ourselves the same question. Here’s a transparent breakdown:

Cost item Amount
Taxes (approx. 25%, varies by country)
€75
Electricity (including taxes and surcharges)
€10
Ongoing operating and maintenance costs (5%)
€15
Reserves for periods of low demand (15%)
€45
Investments (10%), e.g. new equipment
€30
Subtotal costs
€175
Engineer’s working time (revenue minus costs)
€125

Conclusion of the calculation

As shown above, a mix and master generates €300 in revenue. However, significant costs must be deducted before determining the actual hourly income.

On average, this results in an effective hourly rate of €41.67 for the mixing and mastering engineer. This reflects years of experience, extensive training, mastery of multiple instruments, and substantial investments of time, money, and professional risk.

Everyone is free to judge the fairness of this outcome. We simply want to highlight one essential factor that cannot be measured in money: creative energy, passion, and experience. Whether in mixing or audio mastering, this contribution is truly priceless.
