What makes the 1:1 Mixing Masterclass special
Your project
No pre-prepared demo. We'll work on your real song, with its real strengths and problems.
be there live
You can see and hear the professional workflow in real time – online with a high-quality audio signal or directly in the studio.
Understanding decisions
We not only show what we change, but also explain why – and when we deliberately choose not to change anything.
You know the tools. But when is which decision the right one?
Most home studio producers don't fail because they lack plugins. They fail because they don't know what a mix actually needs at any given moment. Maybe you can relate:
- "I hear that something is wrong, but I don't know exactly what."
- "I know about EQ and compressor, but I don't know when to use them."
- "Tutorials show techniques – but not on my song."
- "My mix sounds good at home, but not like professional productions."
- "I spend a lot of time tweaking settings and I don't know if it will actually get better."
- "I don't know which problem I should solve first."
- "I want to understand when a professional deliberately chooses not to intervene."
This is precisely where the masterclass comes in: not with further techniques, but with the thought process behind it – using your own material.
What is a 1:1 Mixing Masterclass?
In the Mixing Masterclass, a Peak-Studios engineer works live on your song – using their professional workflow, tools, and monitoring system. You're there, listening along, asking questions, and discussing decisions with them.
This is what distinguishes the Masterclass from three formats you may already know:
- No tutorial: A video shows someone else's song. This one's about yours.
- No course: There is no fixed curriculum and no exercises. We work on what your project currently needs.
- Not your average mixing gig: With the mixing service, you receive a finished mix at the end. In the masterclass, you gain insight into the decision-making process that leads to this mix.
No pre-prepared demo. No general tutorial. We work live on your actual project and explain what we hear, what we suspect, how we verify it, and why we choose a particular edit.
This is how a mixing engineer thinks during a session
The most valuable part of the masterclass is not a plugin trick, but a process that you experience firsthand with every important decision:
hören
What is actually bothersome? Before opening a plugin, we clarify what is truly noticeable from a musical or technical perspective.
Form a hypothesis
Is the bass really too loud – or just poorly defined? Is the voice too quiet – or is it masked?
Check problem
Solo, context, reference, analyzer, level comparison: The assumption is checked before we intervene.
Compare options
Balance, arrangement, EQ, dynamics, automation – or deliberately no editing.
make decision
Why this particular approach? The engineer explains not only the attitude, but also the goal behind it.
Assess A/B
Is it actually better – or just different and louder? The assessment is conducted in context and at comparable loudness levels.
This is how your Mixing Masterclass will proceed
Define project and goal
What should be better at the end of the session? We'll determine the focus together.
Analyze rough mix and references
We'll listen to your current situation and compare it to your references.
Prioritizing problems
What will benefit your song the most? We'll start with the biggest lever.
The engineer is working live
You can follow the processing in real time.
Decisions are explained
The engineer justifies the most important decisions while he is working.
Questions and A/B comparisons
You can pause at any time, ask questions, and compare different options.
Outcome and next steps
Finally, we summarize what has changed, what is still open, and how things can proceed.
Which themes we can work on in your song
The topics covered in your session are determined by your song – not a curriculum. In one hour, we can cover one or two key areas; in three hours, significantly more. Possible topics:
- BALANCE
- Gain Staging
- Vocals
- Kick & Bass
- contrabass
- Drums
- EQ
- compression
- transients
- Saturation
- spatiality
- Reverb & Delay
- stereo image
- Depth Staging
- Automation
- mix bus
- Loudness
- mastering
- Reference work
- Translation
And mastering?
Upon request, the Mixing Masterclass can be transformed into a Mixing & Mastering Masterclass. This then covers topics such as the transition from mix to premaster, headroom, dynamics, clipping and limiting, loudness and true peak, the low end under mastering stress – and mixing problems that only become audible during mastering.

Depending on the scope, a significant portion of the mix can be completed during this time. However, a fully finished production is neither included in nor guaranteed by the Masterclass.
And what if the song is to be finished afterwards?

Frequently Asked Questions about the Mixing Masterclass
What is the difference between a Mixing Masterclass and 1:1 lessons?
Im 1:1 lessons You work in your own DAW, and your coach guides you: They listen, ask questions, and help you make the right decisions yourself. In the Mixing Masterclass, the engineer works on your song, and you watch, listen, and ask questions. The lessons build your own skills in the long term, and the Masterclass makes the professional decision-making process visible in relation to your project.
Is the engineer actually working on my song himself?
Yes. The engineer processes your material live in their own workflow. That's the core of the masterclass – and the reason why it costs more than a lesson.
Will my song be completely mixed during the masterclass?
That can happen, but it's not part of the Masterclass's promise. Within your booked time, we work on your actual project and prioritize the most important decisions for your song. In a Focus Session, for example, this might be exclusively the vocal mix or the low end. If your main goal is a completely finished mix without a learning focus, our professional mixing service the better choice.
Can I have the mix finished afterwards?
Yes. After the masterclass, we can offer you professional finalization of the mix and master separately. The price depends on how much work still needs to be done after the session.
How does an online mixing masterclass work?
The engineer works on their system and shares their screen and audio via video call. You listen through your headphones or speakers and can ask questions at any time. You will receive the link to the session before the appointment.
Can I use my own DAW or my plugins?
In the masterclass, the engineer works in their own professional setup. If you absolutely need to work in your own DAW and with your own plugins, then the... 1:1 lessons usually the more suitable format.
Which files do I need?
A current rough mix, a brief problem description, and – depending on the goal – the relevant individual tracks or stems. A reference song is helpful but optional. We only need a complete DAW project if we have already clarified compatibility beforehand.
How many hours should I book?
For a clearly defined problem, a one-hour focus session is often sufficient. For the overall mix and several related problems, we recommend two hours. Three hours are worthwhile for complex projects or when mastering topics are also involved.
Can mastering also be covered?
Yes. Upon request, the transition from mix to master can also be covered – including headroom, limiting, loudness, true peak, and translation. However, the main focus of the masterclass remains mixing.
Is the masterclass suitable for beginners?
Generally, yes. However, you'll benefit most if you already know basic concepts like EQ, compressor, and bus. If you're a complete beginner, the 1:1 lessons usually the better starting point.
Can I address only one problem, like vocals or low-end?
Yes, that's exactly what the Focus Session is for. We'll then concentrate on that specific area of your song for one hour.
Can I specify certain plugins or techniques?
Yes, gladly. Tell us in advance what you're interested in. We'll then show you if and when the technique makes sense for your song – and when it doesn't.
Can I record the session for private learning purposes?
Yes, after prior arrangement – exclusively for your private learning purposes. Publication or distribution of the recording is not permitted.
Can the masterclass take place in the studio?
Depending on availability, yes – in Gerbrunn near Würzburg or in Berlin-Spandau. We will confirm the location with you when you submit your request.
What is the difference to mix analysis?
The mix analysis This is a written diagnosis of your mix with measurements and specific recommendations – without a live session. In the masterclass, you'll see live how an engineer actually solves these problems in your song.
What is the difference to a regular mixing service?
At the Mixing service We'll mix your song and deliver a finished mix. Optionally, you can discuss any desired changes directly with us in a remote session – this is all about the final result. The masterclass focuses on the decision-making process: you'll understand why the engineer does what they do.
