When it comes to delivering the audio data to the press shop, creating and sending a DDP (Disc Description Protocol) offers several advantages over the conventional "Master CD".

DDP MASTER FAQ

DDP stands for Disc Description Protocol and was developed or introduced by Doug Carson & Associates to the Delivery of audio data after mastering to enable the press shop to Avoid mistakes and to have a safeguarding of the track order and CD Text. This "protection" is provided by means of the CD text and the checksum, that are in the DDP package or in the DDP images are possible.

HOW IS A DDP CREATED?

The DDP image is created after the Sony Red Book Standard created, which in short means that the Audio data are available on a CD in 16 bit must and a Sampling rate (sample rate) of 44.1 kHz to have. A song must be at least 4 seconds long and a CD can contain a maximum of 99 tracks.

The advantage of DDP mastering is that when burning no C2 and C3 errors develop. These are often due bad torches or lasers causes and ensures tiny scratches on the CD that cannot be seen with the naked eye. In addition, the transmission of a DDP image prevents unintentional opening and playing by managers, label bosses or other musicians, thus avoiding scratches on the CD or audio data when playing.

DISTRIBUTION OF THE AUDIO DATA ON THE DDP IMAGE

Since a total of 24 bits are available on an audio CD - 16 bits for the audio data with 96 db dynamic range and 8 bits for the subchannel, also known as the mantissa - it is possible in the Packing 8 bit CD information like CD Text. This includes, for example, the title, name of the artist, ISRC code, EAN code, songwriter, arranger, genre and a possibility for a short message, as well as the break times.

Becomes a DDP master by means of software, the audio data - so your songs and the CD Text created. For this purpose, all audio files are dragged into the DDP project, the pause times are set, the order is fixed and the CD-Text and all necessary information are stored. The CD image is then created. This usually contains a .DAT file and a checksum, as well as the individual tracks on the CD.

This DDP master will then usually zipped and sent to the press shop.
