How much does an hour in a recording studio cost? Prices & packages

An hour in the recording studio at Peak-Studios costs from €75 including an engineer – mixing and mastering are then charged separately. A package deal is usually the best option: from €349 you get a finished song including everything. mixing and mastering, a complete Studio day The price with an engineer starts at €850. Ultimately, what's included in the price is less important than the hourly rate when it comes to recording studio costs.

Why many studios no longer charge by the hour

A simple hourly rate sounds fair, but it obscures what you're actually paying for: preparation and post-production, session management, as well as mixing and mastering after recording are often billed separately by many providers and only appear on the final invoice. A song or daily rate bundles all of this – you know the total cost before the session even begins in the recording studio.

At Peak-Studios, you have the choice: studio time with an engineer starting at €75 per hour, or a package. The song packages include recording, mixing, and mastering at all locations; a studio day covers recording time with an engineer. Post-production—mixing and mastering—is no longer a separate item in the package. The two tables below show exactly what's included in each price.

What's included in a studio price

Before comparing recording studio prices, it's worth taking a look at the services included. Not every studio charges the same way – this table shows what is often billed separately and how Peak-Studios handles it.

Rent a recording studio or book a package: what does a day cost?

Those looking for the cost of renting a recording studio per day usually don't mean a single song, but a whole day with a band, drums, or multiple recording sessions. Peak-Studios offers two options for this: a studio day with an engineer or a fixed song package.

A studio day is worthwhile if you want to book time rather than a finished product – for example, for a band with a drum setup. The Studio Day in Berlin costs from €850 for up to 8 hours, including an engineer, comping, and rough mixes; mixing and mastering are not included. The Band Recording Day in Stuttgart is similar, also starting at €850 for 8 to 10 hours, including setup the evening before. A recording package, on the other hand, delivers a fixed result: a finished song including mixing and mastering, regardless of how many takes are needed.

Recording studio prices compared: Budget, mid-range and premium

How do these prices compare to the market? We analyzed the publicly advertised prices of around 50 recording studios in Berlin and the greater Stuttgart area and converted all figures to final prices including VAT (as of July 2026). Many studios – especially in the premium segment – don't list any prices at all.

segmentHour with EngineerStudio day (8–10 hours)Typical
Budget and project studiosapprox. €40–55approx. €270–400Home and project studios, affordable complete packages
mid-range studiosapprox. €70–100approx. €430–700established studios, usually billing by the hour.
Premium Studiosusually only on requestfrom approximately €1.150large spaces, studio history, label productions
Peak-Studios, from € 75from € 850Final prices, packages including mixing & mastering from €349

Budget and project studios These are the cheapest way to record a song, and they can often be booked quickly. However, one person often handles recording, mixing, and mastering on the same day, and the price rarely specifies how much studio time or how many revisions are included.

In midfield You'll get reliable equipment and experienced engineers. Billing is usually done by the hour – often net, so 19% VAT will be added to the rates mentioned. Mixing and mastering are generally billed separately.

Premium and traditional studios They offer large recording rooms, specialized equipment, and a long list of well-known productions. This comes at a price: daily rates, where prices are even quoted, start at around €1.150. For label and large-scale productions, this is the place to go.

Why we deliberately positioned ourselves in between

Our studio hour price is average, while our studio day price falls between average and premium – placing us significantly below traditional studios. This is a conscious decision.

  • Two specialists instead of one person for everything: Recording takes place on location, mixing and mastering are then handled by our mixing and mastering team – with fresh ears instead of in the same session.
  • Final prices instead of net rates: All prices include VAT; the total amount is fixed before booking.
  • Clearly defined packages: Studio time, mixing, mastering and revisions are itemized instead of being charged "by effort".
  • Verifiable quality: Nearly 400 Google reviews with an average of 5 stars.

Which option suits you best?

The right choice depends less on the budget than on the project. Whether you want to record a song, organize a band session, or book an EP:

  • A single song, manageable effort: Recording package S or M covers recording, mixing and mastering.
  • More time for finer details, vocals with tuning: Recording package L with 4 hours and 2 revision versions, optionally plus editing and vocal tuning.
  • Band with drums or several musicians: Band Recording Day in Stuttgart or Studio Day in Berlin, each with an engineer for the whole day.
  • A single song recorded live without much overdubbing: Live session single in Stuttgart.
  • Multiple songs for one release: The EP package in Berlin is available for 4 or 6 songs.

Hidden costs you should be aware of

Before you compare costs for or book a recording studio, four questions are worth asking:

  1. Are mixing and mastering included in the price or are they charged separately?
  2. Is editing, comping, or vocal tuning calculated automatically or only upon request?
  3. How many revision versions are included before further revisions cost extra?
  4. Is the stated price a final price including VAT?

Point one in particular often determines the biggest price difference: A cheap hourly rate for pure recording can end up being more expensive than a flat rate that already includes mixing and mastering.
