What does release time do on a compressor?

The release time (also called response time) determines how quickly aCompressorreturns to normal after the signal exceeds or falls below the set point.
Release times that are too short can causepumpingor distortion; release times that are too long can make the signal feelsluggish.

How does the compressor release time calculator work?
